All housings come with fully transparent back plate (acrylic) and one handle on the left. The Sport Series (NOT Sport Housings) allows access to most/all of the camera controls, the Surf Series only features access to a limited selection (see comments above) by default, while support for more controls are optional (customizable on order). Aquatech offers Pistol Grip and Pole (50cm and 80cm) Shutter Release Kits. The original versions where point and shoot only (no AF on half-press), the newer versions feature AF setting (not supported by older housings). The D-35 housing is only cross-compatible with EOS 40D and 50D, the other cameras need their very own tray and rear plate. The 5pin connectors are said to be "i-TTL capable" [!sic] ...

In 2011 Aquatica acquired Amphibico. The brand is still used by Aquatica for their professional video and cine housings, while all housings related to still photo cameras (compact, mirrorless and DSLRs) continue to ship under the Aquatica banner. Technical Lighting Control is another brand used by Aquatica for all things related to lighting equipment, rods etc.. The built-in anti corrosion anodes are sacrificial and need replacement from time to time. The optional Aquatica View Finder [#20054: , Amazon: ] is compatible with all housings released since 2008 (older housings have fixed viewfinders). It is waterproof down to 90m and sealed with 3 o-rings, the housing is made of aluminum. It features diopter adjustment and a rear viewing area of 38mm at 100% coverage. The system chart of the A5D MkIII further lists the 45° angled view finder [#20059: ] as compatible accessory. The leak sensors are powered by a CR2032. For underwater video applications there is an optional Hydrophone (underwater microphone) available [#19221].

There are several sources on the net complaining about non-existing service, warranty rip-offs, bad quality and durability (including leakage on delivery). Bruder Unterwassertechnik was the original company, later redesigned into the Fradotec-Mediasub vehicle, where Frado produced for MS (same owner though). As of 2011 the companies don't exist anymore (last Wayback Machine entry was in 2009), so acquisition of spare parts will become more and more difficult. Handles are included. The optional viewfinder had an angle design of 45° and offered a 1.5x magnification. The leak sensor only gives an acoustic warning (all other companies' sensors offer acoustic as well as optical warnings).

BS Kinetics emerged from Bruder Unterwassertechnik, but soon earned a better reputation. They started with the same models, technologies and basic ideas. Thus their basic housings fit many camera models (like Dahna will most likely fit to be adapted to 30D, 40D etc. as well). The housings are compatible with the Inon 45° and Inon/Nauticam 180° Viewfinders. "Optic Flash" editions (Gibson, Dahna, Karakun and Lut) also feature optical connectors.

Makrolon is a special polycarbonate registered by Bayer MaterialScience. Dive Ross offers the DRA0007 Motozoom upgrade module with micro motor, that enables power-zooming with Canon EF 10-22, 16-35, 17-85, 17-35, 17-40, 18-55 (IS) and Sigma 10-22. They also offer the DRA0010 Manualzoom kit, which adds a small knob to the port to manually zoom in and out (works with the same lenses).

The size of the lens port given here reads Ø x min. - max. length measured from back of the body to the front of the lens. You need one of the AV110 Autofocus Adapters, if you want to use lenses, that change in their length during focus (not compatible with U-AXP100, U-B100 etc., see comments above). AV110 is back compatible with AV100, but not with AV90 (used with older models of housings). There are 3 relevant variants: AV110 is the basic one for U-A and U-AX, AV110-P is used for U-AXP and AV110-L is needed for U-AZ. Ewa-Marine housings feature a valve on the back that is used to blow air into the housing while descending in the water. Since the housings are filled with a lot of air, the use of an optional lead weight is necessary (BF1).

Hugyfot introduced the HugyCheck in 2008 as a standard feature with every housing. For older models or charges it's available as upgrade. HugyCheck not only checks for humidity but also for consistent underpressure during pre-dive and dive phases. Advanced viewfinders are optionally available as 45° angle and 180° straight type (both with a magnification of 1:1). An eTTL converter is also available. All housings are fully transparent. Ikelite delivers sets including handles, tray and viewfinder. Ports are optional. Ikelite DS: E-TTL is only supported with Ikelite DS substrobes. DS50 with SNs below 63850 will not work though, SNs between 63850 and 69999 need a firmware update, SNs above will work properly. Similar issue for DS125, models with SN below 5000 will need firmware update. FW updates need factory service. Updated or properly working models wear special labels reading either "Ikelite Substrobe MOD-NC" or "Ikelite DS 50/125 Substrobe SN" in the bat. compartments. With non-Ikelites only manual operation will be available. Cables are available for Nikonos and Sea & Sea/Inon. 2009 Upgrade: This included the addition of 2 more port slide locks (incompatible with #5510.10 Superwide Port Body for the 8" Dome, use #5510.11 instead) as well as a mount for lightweight accessories on top. Ikelite housings feature 3 different types of controls: two including a shaft and one being push buttons. The shaft type controls are self-serviceable, but the push button controls will need professional service, if getting stuck. Housings come with control gears.

Nexus Housings are manufactured by Anthis Co. Ltd., Japan. The Viewfinders can be exchanged against Inon models. F.I.T. Pro Vacuum System [] is available, which also fits Gates, Inon, Nauticam, Sea & Sea and Subal housings. Valves for Nexus come in 2 sizes - S or L, the sensor is powered by a CR1632 (BLE of 29h). The 40D, 50D, 7D, 5DII and 5DIII housings seem to be upgradeable to 6D (conversion service).

Makrolon is a special polycarbonate registered by Bayer MaterialScience. As of 2012 all housings including a zoom standard port come with gear for zoom control; built-in leak sensor (was previously optional only) and camera leak insurance.

Patima suggests to exchange the o-rings every 2 years. Patima 6 pin is an E-TTL connector, so I guess it's either a standard S6 or a proprietary S6 like connector. Double check the depth ratings, seems like they don't take it too serious.

Recsea is the distribution unit of the Seatool universe. They are selling the housings under their own label though, while the recent Seatool models labeled as such are not listed by Fisheye (former regular distribution unit) or Seatool USA. There are 2 different viewfinders available from Recsea: Normal Finder (smallest finder with less then 100% FOV but 1.0x magnification) and Pick-up Finder (#OP-PUF01, 100% FOV and 0.8x magnification). Seatool additionally offers Straight Viewfinder (100% FOV and 1.0x magnification) and 45-degree Viewfinder (angle design with 100% FOV and 1.0x magnification).

VF180 VF45 Sea&Sea suggests exclusive usage of Sea&Sea YS strobes with their housings to prevent malfunctions. The YS TTL Converter connector can be optionally replaced by a Nikonos 2 pin connector. All housings are shipped with an exchangeable viewfinder (see list), options include 0.5x [#46108], 0.66x [#46109] and 0.8x [#46104]. The VF45 1.2x angled viewfinder [#46111] (390g) and the VF180 1.2x straight viewfinder [#46112] (275g) is compatible with RDX-600D, MDX-7D and MDX-5DIII out of the box. MDX-5DII will need the included accessory spacer. RDX-550D and MDX-40D need factory modification to fit. Standard ports are only shipped with housings in selected sets. Grips are always sold separately. Shutter-Activated Focus Light [#46060]: 6V 2.1W, powered by 2x CR123A (last for 3.5 hours), waterproof up to 60m, 143x59x37mm, 230g. Requires an optional mini [#29511] or hot shoe arm [#29501] for mounting. Needs a 5 pin connector. Discontinued as of writing this (2011), was designed for DX series. For blue o-rings (main and port seals) the right grease comes from Sea&Sea exclusively in yellow tubes with blue print and blue caps [#01900] (don't use the wrong grease here, see manual!). Compatibility issues with ports for NX-90Pro: Ports with black bayonet and 4 digit SN need modification, only ports with gray bayonet and 5 digit SN fit the MDX system. For the RDX system this only applies to Port Base L (not compatible with port base S at all). DX housings are compatible with most NX accessories (all ports).

SPL housings are explicitly not made for diving. Their main purpose is shooting on-water sports like surfing, swimming etc. They come with pistol grip and handle (both detachable), except for 40D simple, which comes with pistol grip only. With the normal housings available controls are very limited in number by default (aperture, shutter speed, shutter release). The Splash housings offer extended features here as well.

There are 3 different viewfinders available: Standard (default Galileo type finder, 100% coverage, little below 1x magnification), GS 180 (straight, 1.5x magnification), WS 30 (30° angled, 1.5x magnification) and WS 45 (45° angled, 1.5x magnification). These are compatible with all housings. A 4th model - the Prism Finder PS-30 actually is an LCD loupe for Live View or video modes and only available for a selected range of housing models.

The standard viewfinder offers a 100% FOV, but a magnification below 1.0x. An optional 45° angle viewfinder is available offering 1:1 film:viewfinder magnification ratio (might show compatibility issues with older cases).

It seems like this is the only housing ever produced for a D-SLR. The company still has a website with copyright notice until 2009. However, last company news are from 2004.

Surf Series: From their homepage it's not clear whether weights include or exclude the port, that is included with the package. It seems like there are no default packages by Zillion, every housing is manufactured after customer's specifications. ZAP UW Housings are available in various colors incl. red, pink, white, mint, dark green, blue, silver, gray and black (all either with metallic or pearl effect) and plain yellow.

General Notes:
1.)	Weights and sizes only include the body if not noted otherwise. They exclude handles, viewfinders (as far as exchangeable) and ports.
2.)	If the housing you are looking for was never produced in series that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't exist. All of the high quality manufacturers with long traditions, especially BS Kinetics, Hugyfot or UK-Germany, are able to manufacture or alter existing housings to customer's wishes.
3.)	When you look for underwater housing equipment, keep in mind that you are investing money worth a second camera and lens set, in some cases even more. UW housings frequently need factory service as well as spare parts. Make sure you don't have to send the housing to the other side of the planet each time, and that the fitting o-rings etc. will be available for a few years. Also check manufacturers or 3rd party services for renting options, in most cases this should be less expensive for hobby photographers.
